Letters-3: Study of Humanities

Apropos the article, "Higher Education Needs Overhaul" (The Hindu, Education Plus, April 26, 2010), it is pertinent to note that the technical courses insist on the manpower skill and intellectual power only. But if Humanities are included in the higher education syllabus, the learner's mind will be humanised. So the study of English Literature - say novels, short stories, biographies, lyrics, autobiographies etc. will broaden the mind and outlook of the learners. If we neglect the study of humanities, a total degradation of ethical and moral values will spread - M.S.Sankaran, Palani.
