In this talk from Mindvalley Live 2019 in Los Angeles, JIM KWIK the author of Mindvalley's Superbrain and learning expert gives his talk on how we can actually learn faster by taking the information we read in faster and more effectively.

Want to learn more about how to enhance your learning? Tune into Jim Kwik's FREE masterclass here๐Ÿ‘‰ https://go.mindvalley.com/hWAzfM-6

The average person reads at a rate of about 225 words-per-minute (wpm). Jim Kwik, on the other hand, can read at rate of 1,300 wpm… Plus, he remembers and retains everything he reads. Now that’s speed reading.

Here’s the thing, though, Jim Kwik wasn’t always so kwik. In fact, he suffered a head trauma when he was 5 years old that slowed down his ability to learn (or so he thought). He fell far behind in school due to this, and struggled to keep up with the others kids. His seemingly incessant slow learning was almost the cause of his undoing.

It wasn’t until he was in college that he decided to give his learning difficulty a bit more attention. So, he thought a lot about learning — these thoughts then led him to delve into the concept of meta-learning, or learning how to learn (something we are strangely not taught how to do in school). He then decided to focus his attention on simply learning how to learn— on how to make learning his superpower!

Now, his impressive intelligence is known worldwide. As well, he has set up many Schools for Superheroes, which specialize in helping people attain their natural-born superpowers (without needing to be bit by a spider). One of these superpowers, is speed reading.

Jim emphasizes the importance of speed reading by explaining that:

"The average person reads 200-250 words-per-minute and spends 3 to 4 hours of their work day reading. That’s more than one-third of their time on the job. If that person makes $60,000 a year, then at least $20,000 of that money is paying for them to read.  But proper training can easily double the average person’s reading speed (up to 400-450 w.P.M.). That cuts 3 to 4 hours down to 1 to 2. That’s a savings of over an hour a day. If you do that for 365 days a year, that’s 9 different 40 hour work weeks saved. That’s real time productivity. Imagine what you could do with all that extra time."- Jim Kwik

Developments in artificial intelligence (AI) are leading to fundamental changes in the way we live. Algorithms can already detect Parkinson's disease and cancer, and control both cars and aircraft. How will AI change our society in the future?

This documentary journeys to the hot spots of AI research in Europe, the USA and China, and looks at the revolutionary developments which are currently taking place. The rapid growth of AI offers many opportunities, but also many dangers. AI can be used to create sound and video recordings which will make it more and more difficult to distinguish between fact and fiction. It will make the world of work more efficient and many professions superfluous. Algorithms can decide whether to grant loans, who is an insurance risk, and how good employees are. But there is a huge problem: humans can no longer comprehend how algorithms arrive at their decisions. And another big problem is AI’s capacity for widespread surveillance. The Chinese city of Rongcheng is already using an AI-supported 'social credit system' to monitor and assess its citizens. Does AI pose a danger to our personal freedoms or democracy? Which decisions can we leave to the algorithms - and which do we want to? And what are AI’s social implications?

This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Is 26% proficiency in math acceptable to you?  That's the question teacher and SYNERGY ACADEMIES FOUNDER DR.RANDY PALISOC asks the TEDxManhattanBeach audience.  With only 26% of U.S. twelfth graders proficient in mathematics, Randy shares his solution: teach math as a language. Putting words back into math lessons enables even the youngest school-age minds to grasp complex concepts, such as fractions, that are traditionally thought of as abstract and difficult to understand.  In his stunningly simple and effective approach, math no longer creates problems for kids but solves them.

Randy Palisoc is a passionate educator, known for making math easy.  A founder of the five-time national award winning Synergy Academies, Randy is proud to identify Synergy as an “in spite of” school.  In spite of the fact that its students were disadvantaged and in spite of the fact that it did not have its own facility and had to pack up its classrooms every single week, his school was the first and only elementary school in South Los Angeles to ever win the National Blue Ribbon Award, and was named the #1 Urban Elementary School in America in 2013.

Seeking a broader impact, Randy left Synergy this year to start Ironbox Education.  One of the ways he believes we can dramatically improve America’s schools is by doing a better job teaching math to our students in a way that makes sense to them.  Randy believes implementing a few changes in the way we approach math will give students the confidence and thinking skills to be more competitive in a global economy.

Favorite TED Talk:  “My Invention That Made Peace With Lions”: Richard Turere

The “Game Changer” he most admires is Steve Jobs, because he had the ability to envision things we did not even know we needed or wanted.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and reg
