Words of Wisdom-79:
Teach yourselves, teach everyone, his/her real nature, call upon the sleeping soul and see how it awakes. Power will come, glory will come, goodness will come, purity will come, and everything that is excellent will come, when this sleeping soul is roused to self-conscious activity - Swami Vivekananda

Letters-3: Study of Humanities
Apropos the article, "Higher Education Needs Overhaul" (The Hindu, Education Plus, April 26, 2010), it is pertinent to note that the technical courses insist on the manpower skill and intellectual power only. But if Humanities are included in the higher education syllabus, the learner's mind will be humanised. So the study of English Literature - say novels, short stories, biographies, lyrics, autobiographies etc. will broaden the mind and outlook of the learners. If we neglect the study of humanities, a total degradation of ethical and moral values will spread - M.S.Sankaran, Palani.
